Growing Kids
July 30, 2006
I had photographed these kids 8 months ago and was called back again. It’s always amazing to see how much they’ve changed in such a short time. Kids grow so fast and it’s wonderful to have the opportunity to capture that in still images. The little boy was celebrating his first birthday that evening. Happy Birthday!
Choosing photographers
July 18, 2006
If you are considering hiring a photographer for portraits, you’ve probably searched through several photographer’s galleries in search of the perfect one for you and your family. Here are a few things to consider:
- Style:(the most important) What kind of style do you want? All true photographers consider their work a form of art, therefore, each one has different styles and techniques that they practice. Some will use many props and some don’t, some do only black & white, and other color, or even both.
- Cost: While this should never be the main decision maker, let’s face it, money does matter. Can you afford the photographer you chose? How much can you spend? According to the photographer’s prices, what will you be able to purchase for that amount?
- Availibility and convienence: How far in advance should you make your appointment? How will you be able to view your proofs and what are the policies of that business.
While I appreciate my client’s business, it’s comforting to know that I’m a good match for the customer’s needs. Portraits of your family members are something that will be around for many generations. Quality prints is an investment into the future of your children and grandchildren, etc.

Oh, Baby!
July 8, 2006
I must admit, I’m biased towards infant sessions. Nothing beats photographing a sweet smelling, soft, and cuddly baby. The results are very important for the parents since babies change so quickly. I do stress to maternity clients and new parents to book your session asap, preferrably within the first 2 weeks from birth, but if that’s not possible, within the first month. That newborn look only stays around for a very short time. If you were thinking of waiting till the baby is older, holding their head up, you may miss out on one of the most precious times of your babies growth, that first look.
Last week, I photographed a 3 week old baby boy. I gushed over him through most of the session. He was the perfect subject. These were repeat clients as I also did their maternity photos. It’s always great to see the new babies afterwards.

Two days after this session, I had another repeat customer. This baby girl made girl #3 for the parents. Talk about girl power! 3.5 months old here
